Dog Diarrhea | Olewo USA

carrots for dogs

Carrots are an excellent source of natural nutrition and offer amazing health benefits for dogs such as:

  1. Quick cure from dog diarrhea

  2. Healthy digestion in dogs

  3. Natural deworming

  4. Healthy skin and coat

  5. Immune system health

Many pet owners however don’t realize that dogs are NOT able to properly digest raw carrots, and therefore the valuable nutrients cannot be absorbed when given in the raw form.  Olewo Dehydrated Carrots are easy to digest and in the proper form allowing for absorption of the beneficial nutrients in the dog’s digestive system to get the full benefits from this nutrient-rich vegetable. Dogs actually need some vegetables in their diet because they contain many important health-promoting nutrients from a natural source. Many of those nutrients are the ones that are often lacking in commercial dog foods, and natural source vitamins are much more effective than synthetic vitamins.

HOW TO PREPARE AND FEED OLEWO DEHYDRATED CARROTS:

how to feed carrots for dogs step 1DIRECTIONS: Rehydrate the recommended daily amount of Olewo Dehydrated Carrots according to bodyweight of the dog (refer to feeding chart on bag) in some warm water. The amount of water used for rehydration can be adjusted to your liking depending on the desired consistency of the final reconstituted mixture.

how to feed carrots for dogs step 2DIRECTIONS:  The addition of a small amount of oil (refer to feeding chart on bag) is recommended to help convert more of the beta-carotene to the beneficial vitamin A, but is optional.  Good oils to use are salmon oil, flax seed oil, organic coconut oil; but most oils you have in your kitchen will do, even olive oil. Oil should not be added for puppies because puppy food already has a higher fat content; when feeding performance dog foods, which are also higher in fat; or for seniors because they simply don’t need the added oil.

how to feed carrots for dogs step 3DIRECTIONS: Steep for 10 minutes in warm water until the carrot pellets are completely rehydrated.  Then add to the dog’s regular food such as dry kibble, canned dog food, raw dog food, or home cooked meals.

Are you looking at your dog’s stool?

We have asked this question many times while we had a local pet store.  Some customers were examining their dog’s stool, and others responded “Heck no, why would I want to look at my dog’s poop?”  It really is important to know what your dog’s stool normally looks like to determine if there is a problem when there is a concern.

Keep your dog hydrated!

A big concern during episodes of diarrhea is dehydration.  Make sure your dog has plenty of water to keep him or her hydrated!  If necessary, use a syringe to force your dog to ingest some water.  During this time of discomfort, it may be hard to get your dog interested in drinking or eating at all.  Even in this situation, Olewo Carrots come to the rescue.  Since Olewo Carrots need to be rehydrated with water, your dog will automatically ingest some much needed liquid.  Dogs love the taste of Olewo Carrots and they will most likely eat it, even if they are not interested in eating anything else.  In this situation, the rehydrated Olewo Carrots can be given by itself, and not mixed in with other food.

In most cases it is okay to try and remedy diarrhea at home before seeking medical attention, especially with the common causes of diarrhea listed below.

DIET

Diet is one of the most common causes for diarrhea.  With puppies, any change in diet can cause diarrhea because their digestive system is so young and has difficulty digesting new foods.  Adult dogs can get diarrhea because the dog food they are fed may not be ideal, it may be too high in fat or protein, may have irritating additives, or the dog may be allergic to one or some of the dog food ingredients.  Switching to a new dog food can also cause diarrhea if the transition happened to fast.  The dog may have also eaten something that wasn’t meant for consumption or may have eaten something that was unhealthy, like many treats that are on the market.

STRESS

Stress is the other common cause for diarrhea.  We often don’t think about it, but dogs can experience a tremendous amount of stress when left alone for long periods of time, when left in a confined area, when traveling, when going to the vet, groomer, or boarding facility. Dogs can even feel the tension when being around stressed people, and get nervous. Many adopted dogs may have experienced abuse and may never loose the nervousness, even if they end up in a loving home, which is the case with one of our own dogs.

DOG BREEDS PRONE TO DIGESTIVE ISSUES

Some dog breeds such as Australian Shepherds, Boxers, German Shepherds, Great Danes, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, Terriers and others are simply prone to digestive issues and often have soft stools.

SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION

If the diarrhea does not improve, seek medical attention!  When dogs have liquid diarrhea, they may have a viral or intestinal infection.  If the condition persists, seek medical attention because of the high risk of dehydration in this situation. Any time there is blood in the stool or diarrhea, your dog could be experiencing a serious health problem.  Seek medical attention immediately!

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN TREATMENT

Olewo Dehydrated Carrots should be added to your dog’s regular meals daily to prevent diarrhea and other digestive issues.  The beta-carotene in dogs continuously repairs the intestinal lining and maintain good digestive health.  Prevention is always better than treatment!

Please note that Olewo Carrots is the ORIGINAL carrot product for dogs, and the only carrot product on the market that allows dogs to absorb and benefit from the many health-promoting nutrients found in carrots.  The same results cannot be achieved by feeding raw carrots, cooked carrots, or any other carrot product.

carrots for dogsCarrots are an excellent source of natural nutrition and offer amazing health benefits for dogs including a quick cure for Dog Diarrhea.

Many pet owners however don’t realize that dogs are not able to properly digest raw carrots, and therefore the valuable nutrients cannot be absorbed.

Olewo Carrots were developed over 35 years ago and are in the proper form for dogs to get the full benefits from this nutrient-rich vegetable.

The carrot is the king of all vegetables because it is the richest source of beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A).  Beta-carotene is also a powerful antioxidant.  Carrots provide a great source of fiber, contain excellent amounts of vitamin B group factors, vitamins C, D, E, K, and other nutrients such as calcium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium and much more. Dogs actually need some vegetables in their diet because they contain many important health-promoting nutrients from a natural source.  Many of those nutrients are the ones that are often lacking in commercial pet foods, and natural source vitamins are much more effective that synthetic vitamins.

Proper preparation of the carrots is the key to increase their digestibility so that dogs are able to absorb their many health-promoting nutrients.

Raw Carrots

Carrots contain cellulose, which cannot be digested by dogs.  Dogs may enjoy eating raw carrots, but the chewed pieces simply pass through their digestive system with most of the nutrients not absorbed.  If you take a close look, you can see the pieces in the dog’s poop just they way they were swallowed.

Cooked Carrots

One of the most valuable ingredients in carrots is the beta-carotene which gets converted to vitamin A in the dog’s body and delivers many of the health benefits.  Beta-carotene however is very sensitive to light and heat.  Carrots are at the peak of their nutritional level at the time of harvest, and the exposure to light after harvest causes     carrots to loose valuable beta-carotene.  Depending on how fresh the carrots are when they are bought, they may already have low levels of beta-carotene.  If the carrots are then exposed to heat during cooking, more of the valuable beta-carotene and other nutrients will be destroyed.

Carrots in other Pet Products

Now that we know carrots are not only sensitive to light, but also to heat, it explains why carrots as an ingredient in pet food won’t deliver much benefit.  Kibble as well as canned dog food is highly processed and cooked at high temperatures that destroy the beta-carotene and other nutrients.  Freeze-dried chucks of carrots added to some pet foods or found in vegetable dog food mixes are typically too big and therefore won’t be properly digested to absorb the nutrients.  You might also find some carrot products offered in powder form, either offered as a supplement, sprickle-on, or in a vegetable dog food mix. This is also not the ideal form because with powder, the entire surface is exposed to light and air, and as a result the valuable beta-carotene will only be retained for a certain period of time.

Amy

Our three Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs get Olewo Red Beets in the morning and Olewo Carrots in the evening. The Vet asked me last time I brought them in for their annual exam what my secret was to keeping them so healthy. That’s when I pulled out my Olewo samples from my purse! Their rust colors have a rich copper sheen and their coats shine every day thanks to Olewo.  Amy R., Illinois

Four healthy dogsThe whole Household eats Olewo Carrots and Olewo Red Beets from the 100 lb Dutch Shepherd and 55 lb German Shepherd to the  6.8 lb and 3.5 lb Chihuahua. Their coats have amazing pigment and texture, and they have rock solid digestive systems that handle stress of training, traveling and anything else life throws at them.” Aviva M., Virginia

Champion Great Dane“As a breeder and exhibitor of Great Danes, I am thrilled with the results I am seeing with adding Olewo Red Beets and Olewo Carrots to my dog’s food. I am seeing shinier, softer coats, and the two dogs that I have with some skin irritations have improved as well in just 2 weeks. Stools are also firmer and my picky eater loves the carrots. With traveling a lot and being around many different dogs, I am happy that the products also help boost their immune system. So many benefits from adding just a couple of tablespoons of Olewo a day. I will definitely be sticking with this product!.”  Melonie E., Georgia WCK Danes

German Shepherd Dogs“When my two GSDs Quendy & Brisko were young, I struggled getting them a good diet that would work with their sensitive digestive system that most German Shepherds have. Then I found Olewo Carrots.  No more problems and they are extremely healthy! Great skin & coat, no more rashes or allergies, and no more digestive problems period! Their coats are so intense and smooth. Anyone with this breed who loves them as much as I do, owes it to their pets to add Olewo to their diet!” David R., Illinois

Horse with dull coat

Horse with shiny coatThe picture on the top is Bella on August 10, 2011 (before using Olewo). The picture on the bottom was taken this morning on November 11, 2011.  She has been on Olewo Carrots and Olewo Red Beets for only 1 month now. Her coat is smoother and much shinier.  Her hooves look better and are stronger. And most of all, she had a problem with her eye a while back and lost her vision in that eye. Well, she is seeing out of the eye again! We had it confirmed by her Vet. It is not perfect vision but she responds to movement. Truly amazing!  Sara A., Florida

French Lop DoeWe have been feeding our French Lop Doe, Clover, the Olewo Small Animal Mix since we brought her home from the county fair in August of 2011. We give her one scoop on top of her pellets once a day. We can barely get it in her bowl because as we are pouring in the Olewo she is nudging our hand out of the way so she can get to it. Clover is a very big bunny of 12lbs but she is healthy as can be, we have never had a problem with her at all and she is the softest thing you have ever felt. She loves Olewo and we love the results we see from feeding it!”  Jody T., Illinois
