Yesterday a woman brought me a beautiful 8 week old purebred Rottie pup she
found on a busy highway. Aside from being wormy and full of fleas, I
noticed he had large ulcers on both corneas. After observing him awhile, I
suspected he had significant vision impairment and today my vet confirmed
that he is blind. I do think he can see shapes or shadows. He is very
outgoing and you’d never suspect there was any impairment by his spunky
personality.
The eyes appear to me to have some kind of external trauma and my vet says
the ulcers have been there for some time, as they have become vascularized.
I do plan to take him to a canine opthalmologist for an expert opinion. If
the vision impairment is transitory, we will treat him until he is healed
and healthy and adopt him out. However, if the blindness is permanent, I
don’t think that we can offer him a safe place. With an average of 8-12
dogs here at any given time, it is unsafe for little Bruno to run and play
as a pup should, and to keep him confined is inhumane, in my opinion.
Bruno is a beautiful boy and he deserves the chance to grow and thrive in an
appropriate environment. I am writing in the hope that you would be willing
to take this boy and provide him with the environment and training to help
him develop normally and be adoopted into a loving home. I have had him
dewormed, and he’s had Bordatella, DHPP. We are treating his eyes now with
antibiotic ointment and anti-inflammatories until we get him to a
specialist. This has been all so sudden, I haven’t had a chance to take any
pictures, but if you think you might have a place for him, I will send
pictures.
Please help me help him.
